Frank Bongiorno

Frank Bongiorno is Donald Horne Professor of History and Public Ideas, and Director of the Vice-Chancellor’s Centre of Public Ideas, at the University of Canberra. He has previously held academic appointments at the Australian National University, the University of New England, Griffith University and King’s College London, and visiting fellowships at the University of Cambridge and the University of Texas at Austin. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Whitlam Institute within Western Sydney University and Emeritus Professor of the ANU. Frank’s books include The Eighties: The Decade That Transformed Australia (2015) and Dreamers and Schemers: A Political History of Australia (2022) and he has published widely in Australian history. He is President of the Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and Immediate Past President of the Australian Historical Association. Frank is also a member of the Advisory Council of the National Archives of Australia, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Australian Academy of Humanities.
